future Pele?

When (Great) Aunt Karen came to visit a few weeks ago she played ball with Charlie. He was in heaven! She would roll the ball to him and he would kick it. He really is very good (especially for an almost 3 year old). Now he asks me to roll the ball to him daily.

This is a shot of him in action!

pink cupcakes for Sophie

We celebrated Sophie's birthday a second time with her Morling Great-Grandparents.

Ella and Charlie decorated special pinkalicious cupcakes in honor of their baby sister.

Sophie liked her pink cupcakes, but it was a much cleaner experience in comparison to yesterday's chocolate cake.  She's definitly a chocolate lover (like her mom, her sister, her Gran, her Loraine, this list goes on and on).

who wants cake?

Tonight we celebrated Sophie's birthday with the Marshall grandparents.

We are all singing Happy Birthday to Sophie, but she only has eyes for her Daddy.

She thoroughly enjoyed her cake!

Presents

Ella and Charlie gave Sophie a musical Hallmark card. It sings Wipe Out, and has a surfing cow on the front. Charlie chose it; it seemed appropriate as cows are his thing. Ella did all the printing inside the card with a few embellishments (of course)!

Ella and Charlie love musical cards, they have a whole stack of them that they dance to over and over.  Sophie is so proud to have her own!

After her shower, Sophie had a chance to (quietly) examine her new quilt made by her Mo.

It's beautiful!

one year ago today

One year ago today, our family was anxiously awaiting our newest addition...

Sophie Mae Marshall was born at 12:19 PM on Wednesday, August 29, 2007.
She weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz. and was 19 inches long.

We were SO excited to finally meet her!

It's gone by in the blink of an eye, we can't believe our baby girl turned one today.

Sophie, you make us smile!

children's museum

Last week we journeyed to the brand new Children's Museum of Phoenix with our friends.

These stretchy play things were loads of fun!

the Sophie pose

also known as Downward Dog

I'm still curious what these vehicles are called, regardless, the boys loved them (despite Charlie's fingers getting stuck!).

In contrast to this picture, most of the time Charlie spent on the rick-shaw he was the passenger. His buddy Nate pulled him all over the place. Lucky guy to have such a great buddy!

Sophie was ecstatic when Nathan asked her to ride behind him (see the smile behind that plug).

Charlie loved cooking with REAL utensils.

We had a fantastic day at the museum, this is our new favorite place in town!

making pizza

Gran and Papa Jeff make pizza on their grill, on Friday night we decided to give it a try on our Arizona grill...

Charlie loved working the dough.

Ella loved every part of making pizza, especially adding the black olives!

Sophie, waiting for Daddy to come in from the grill.

Sophie, what a big girl you are...almost one!

She wasn't so sure about this dough business...

...she donated hers to a very needy cause.

The finished product!

The kids were so proud. They enjoyed the process so much they forgot to eat the pizza, but not to worry, mom and dad took care of all leftovers!

tickets!

I can remember going to Showbiz Pizza (now Chuck E Cheese) as a kid and playing arcade games all night to get a hand full of tickets to spend at the ticket counter. And boy was it exciting...all that work...and then picking out that fantastic prize.

Last week Ella hit the jack-pot at the arcade (at the bowling alley).  The game she was playing decided to spit out ALL of it's tickets. This took some time and the machine was busy during this time. The funny part was that the kids seemed more upset that the game was unavailable than the fact that they now had enough tickets to get anything they wanted out of the prize machine.

Really, they were pretty uninterested in picking prizes out of this newfangled machine that sucks up your tickets, counts them, and delivers the prize of your choice. I am truly proud that our children would rather play the game than pick the prize. But, really I've never been a high-roller at the arcade, this was such a once in a lifetime experience. And now, I was able to pick prizes out for everyone...definitly more exciting for mom!

night at the gardens

Tonight we spent the evening at the Desert Botanical Garden.

The kids were very anxious for the sun to set so that they could begin the flashlight tour!

The kids were thrilled to use their flashlights on the garden trails. They saw insects, frogs, toads and tadpoles. And lots and lots of desert plants and cacti.  It was a successful night!

I NEED a lunch box!

This summer we borrowed a book from the library called, I Need a Lunch Box. It quickly became one of Charlie's favorites.

The story is about a little brother with an older sister who is just about to start school. The parents take the sister out to buy her school supplies. The brother quickly falls in love with lunch boxes and wants one of his own. He dreams about lunch boxes and all that he could put inside them.

.

On the sister's first day of school, the parents give the little brother his own lunch box!

Of course, Charlie has said all summer, "I NEED a lunch box!"

Today, Ella gave Charlie his very own Spider-Man lunch box! She and I found it weeks ago and have been saving it for just this day...she was SO excited to give it to him.

He LOVES his lunch box. It has been carried around non-stop since. Mostly filled with various snacks and trains.

With his backpack on he's ready to spend the rest of the day with his buddy Nate!
