an unexpected gift of time

Just the two of us today.

We painted her toes, ironed her spring dresses, cleaned out closets and bins and baskets...

Charlie Mae

We call this little girl Sophie Mae.

It's funny how nicknames get started. I call Ella, Ella-bell.

For Sophie it's been many names. When she was a baby it was Fi Fi, (this is how Charlie said her name). Ella calls her Soph. Sometimes I call her Fi. But, much of the time she gets called by her full name.

But for Charlie, it's just Charlie (which is a nickname, it's just used all of the time, as his name is Charles of course). Recently, Charlie told me his name is Charlie Mae. I've explained to him that his full name is Charles Andrew. But this doesn't make sense to him, Charlie Mae is much more logical. Sounds like a great baseball name to me.

On this particular occasion, our Sophie Mae dressed herself in her brother's hat and shoes, and I thought now this is Charlie Mae.

Last week, while visiting the arctic (a.k.a. the Quad Cities) we spent a morning at the John Deere Pavilion.
